Six Dominican spots you need to visit. We?re going to explain you why.
There are heaps of people who has been in the Dominican Republic. But most of them just know the way from the airport to the all-inclusive hotel, to the beach and that?s it. The Caribbean Island is so much more! Let?s discover six exclusive spots.
1. Playa Macao is making you to be the best surfer ever
Macao is the perfect spot for beginners and advanced surfers. Surf school provides surf boards, teachers, shirts, salt free showers and more. You have two options: Either you take the huge waves just in front of the surf school or you go to the right side where the waves are calm.
The first time Jess stood on a surf board was at Playa Macao. She took surf classes and had her own personal teacher. First they made some dry exercises and then they went to the calm side of the beach. The teacher was watching the waves, telling her which one to take and at the beginning he gave her a strong push to keep up with the speed. She had an incredible time, standing up the board while taking the wave.

After surfing you can have a tasty meal at the beach. The food is ridiculous delicious and gives lost energy back. This beach has a fabulous ambient even if you?re not a surf-fan. The clean fine sand beach with palm trees is a good place to lie down. The warm ocean invites you to take a swim or just to hang out.

2. Juanillo let dreams come true
Juanillo is a white sand beach with turquoise clear water. This place is close to Punta Cana. It?s quite calm there but you?ll also find some beach bars and boats. A perfect spot to go for a day trip and to relaxe under huge palm trees and enjoy clear and peaceful water.
3. Breathtaking view and a village built of stone ? Altos de Chavon
Altos de Chavon is an idyllic artists? village close to La Romana. The river Chavon, the green environment and the very romantic architecture is making you loving this place.
There is no village like this in the Dominica Republic. Next to the lovely clobbestone alleys there is an huge amphitheater. Now and then they have some music events there. More attractions are the church Iglesia San Estanislao and the Archeological Museum, where you can observe historical relics of the native people of the Dominican Republic. We loved to take pictures at Altos de Chavon and enjoyed the Christmas lights a lot!
Furthermore there are some restaurants and shops as well that means you don?t have to go home without any lunch or souvenirs 🙂
4. Boca Chica ? the best spot for waterskiing and wakeboard
Boca Chica is just 45 miuntes far from Santo Domingo. This spot is famouse by many tourists. Quite crowded the beaches but you don?t need to go there to relaxe, you go there for skiing on the watersurface! The water is like a huge warm swimmingpool without any waves. Perfect conditions for wakeboarding and waterskiing.

We had some awesome sessions with Papito. He provides all the equipment and teaches you well if you?re a beginner.
The first time we tried wakeboard, it took some time to get up. So Papito called his brother. He joined us in the water and pushed us to get up. Awesome guys! If you?re interested in wakeboarding or waterskiing then get in touch with Papito.
5. The desert in the Caribbean ? Las Dunas de Ban?
Las Dunas de Ban? is famous for the largest sand dunes in the Antilles. Far and wide no buildings, no humans! Las Dunas is a national monument since 1996. Let?s take a walk and leave some tracks behind. Sometimes it can be quite windy there, so don?t get lost! The monument cost about 100 Pesos.

6. Enough sand, let?s go over to the salt hills!
One of the most important salt mining centers in the Dominican Republic is las Salinas. This spot is just around the corner of las Dunas de Ban?. In fact three minutes by car.
If you?re lucky you can find a huge salt mountain. Sometimes there is just a tiny one like when we visited it. The rails and the houses are quite old. It seems like it?s going to collapse. No, it?s not going to, they still use it for the transportation! Lovely salty place.
